Supercritical Steam Generator Principle

A supercritical steam generator is a type of boiler that operates at supercritical pressure, frequently used in the production of electric power.

In contrast to a subcritical boiler, a supercritical steam generator operates at pressures above the critical pressure — 3,200 psi or 22 MPa — in which bubbles can form. Instead, liquid water immediately becomes steam. Water passes below the critical point as it does work in a high pressure turbine and enters the generator's condenser, resulting in slightly less fuel use and therefore less greenhouse gas production.

Technically, the term "boiler" should not be used for a supercritical pressure steam generator as no "boiling" actually occurs in the device.

Steam Turbine Principle:

A steam turbine is a device that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. Its modern manifestation was invented by Sir Charles Parsons in 1884.

Because the turbine generates rotary motion, it is particularly suited to be used to drive an electrical generator – about 90% of all electricity generation is by use of steam turbines. The steam turbine is a form of heat engine that derives much of its improvement in thermodynamic efficiency from the use of multiple stages in the expansion of the steam, which results in a closer approach to the ideal reversible expansion process.

Generator Principle:

A.C. generators or alternators (as they are usually called) operate on the same fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction as D.C. generators. Alternating voltage may be generated by rotating a coil in the magnetic field or by rotating a magnetic field within a stationary coil. The value of the voltage generated depends on-

  • The number of turns in the coil.
  • Strength of the field.
  • The speed at which the coil or magnetic field rotates.


The plant shall have a built-in ETP system, all rejected waste water will be accumulated in the oily water sludge tank then through separator pure water will drain in the rain pit and sludge will be accumulated in the sludge tank. This sludge will then take away by the vendors who have the license of the use of the sludge.
